Tate & Lyles Black Treacle - 16oz (454g)

The 16oz tin is bigger than I expected and the treacle is thick and dark, exactly what you want for toffee. I used it in a marinade and it gave the meat a deep, slightly bitter sweetness that molasses just doesn't match.

Made parkin for the first time with this and the deep molasses flavour is exactly what I wanted, way richer than golden syrup. It's thick enough that it coats the spoon, so measuring takes a bit of patience, but a 454g tin goes surprisingly far.

The treacle has that deep, slightly bitter molasses taste I remember from my grandmother's parkin, and the 16oz tin is the perfect size for a few batches of toffee. It pours thick but loosens up nicely once warmed.
